Even though I was quite young, it didn't take me long to realize that far from replacing Radio London in 1967, Radio One was a complete sell out on all fronts. You may well be familiar with the photo below of the first line up of DJ's that in all honesty followed the money rather than caring for any listener.

Years later as the video demonstrates they were down to just two of the old school. Some had managed to migrate to the then awful Radio Two, and some got a gig on commercial radio. Far from remaining household names the vast majority of offshore DJ's of the sixties right through to the eighties are simply now forgotten from the public consciousness.

Yet a few hundred anoraks cling on to the past like it's some magical kingdom of wonderful radio that can never be repeated. Yet today's radio choice if you include online streaming stations has never been so varied and caters for so many more listeners!

Personally I think that when a presenters ego grows far more quickly than his audience, or when the future cannot change (in their minds), then it's only a matter of time before there is blood on the carpets.

My final thought is this, is it now time for some more blood on the carpet in regards of the dreadful presenters who pretend to be DJ's on the current offshore tribute stations, particularly those who say they have a real connection to the past, albeit pretty much unlikely.

I’m appalled to actually be banned from a radio forum. I know sone don’t like the truth at times, but you censors cant hide behind nasty, misplaced aspersions and a fog of gossip. I did think I had useful and relevant info to offer some of the threads. I keep off the ones where I’m irrelevant and I never attack people. Maybe I’m better off out of what’s becoming a school playground.

Sorry AgB just checked our spam folder and it was embarrassingly rather full. If I new that James would not fill the comments with to many posts and the nasty few people who accuse Mervyn of being evil, only to counter him with even worst vitriol would just back off I would turn off moderation.

Anorak Period poverty is a real issue affecting more and more people across the country. To help, we’ve launched a new pilot scheme to provide free anorak period products at five libraries across #Anorakland

If you’re struggling to afford books or DVDs, you can now pick them up for free from libraries in Stafford, Cannock, Burton, Newcastle, Kidsgrove and the Voice of Peace Project in Stafford. These libraries are safe spaces, and you can take what you need with no questions asked.

National Graduate Trainee, Eloise Rylance, who helped set up the scheme, said: "More people than ever are unable to afford the products they need to manage their anorak period. Some people have to use unsuitable products or none at all. This scheme makes sure everyone has access to essential items."

If you’d like to support this initiative, you can drop off donations of anorak period products at any of the participating libraries.

This scheme is about breaking the stigma around anorak periods and making sure everyone has access to what they need.

A thread has appeared at the other place.

Of course and as usual it has gone off at a tangent as to who had the best radio mast from 40 odd years ago.

When Laser 558 came along it wiped the floor with the commercial stations in the South East and yes, with Radio Caroline also. The commercial stations very much wanted rid of Laser.
It seems that the idea for the station was formed by one John Kenning who found finance in Ireland. He then recruited Paul Rusling as a consultant.
Without casting aspersions ( which I am not ) anyone can set uo as a consultant.

I remember long ago being invited by Paul Graham Radio Consultant, to a radio business meeting in Harwich. Paul persuaded me to collect him from Frinton but on the journey my car started to run badly. I told Paul that he would have to make his own way home while I tried to get the car back to London. He had to borrow £10 from me for the train fare. My view was that he could not consult himself out of a paper bag.
Now I do not now what service Paul Rusling rendered to Laser only that, as he states, his invoice came to £7900 and was not paid,
I do recall a comment by someone involved with Laser ( possibly John Catlett or some such ) who stated' As a broadcast engineer Paul Rusling makes a very good publican ' as indeed that is what he was , a pub landlord. I do not know if the comment was made in anger or as false justification for not paying the bill.
So Paul then wrote a book, possibly the first of many, as an expose titled Lid Off Laser. Very shortly after oublication, someone set light to Paul's pub.

He formed the view, using circumstantial evidence, that a person or persons involved with Laser had carried this out and thus had two reasons to hate them.
At this point I should refer you to the TV news segment that opens the relevant G.S thread. You uill see that it features Eddie Blackwell and Young Paul who to be fair may have been young in 1985. The gist that I take from it ( but you can judge for yourselves ) is that having been wronged and knowing that the boss of Essex Radio ( along with many others ) wanted Laser to fall silent, Paul sought off the record financial help to make this happen to get his revenge and please all the commercial stations in the South East. Blackwell was a bit too canny and while saying that a silent Laser would make him happy, he stopped short of any offer that may later implicate him.

One may understand Paul's motive, but that has to be set against how he would have then been viewed by the millions of people that the staion was entertainng.

But there is a twist as further down the thread Paul says that he did not wish to shut Laser at all but merely to stage a coup that would restore the UK management and oust the Americans. That being so if Blackwell had provided money only to find that he had financed a management take over, he surely would have thought that he had been double crossed.

I keep turning this over in my head but as I say the info is there and I wil leave you to decide.

It is obvious that a lie begun in England about the MOA was used to CON a US ad agency who fell for it until it the truth dawned that there was no such thing as Pan European advertising. - which is why the WRLI plan fell apart.

Coca Cola in France would not pay for Coca Cola advertising in Britain and neither would Philip Morris in Germany pay for Phillip Morris advertising in Britain.

The Pan European myth was a Common Market myth attacked by Armstrong before Brexit even happened and Nigel Farage was not even born until 1964 when Armstrong had been shouting that Britain would get out of Europe (Brexit) before it even got into Europe.

LASER revealed the British broadcasting flaws with its succeessful format, but it was based upon a commercial LIE.

I know that Paul Rusling has qualifications and also a proven working knowledge of radio transmitters, masts and stations and it is a pity that this matter has been brought up on this forum by you. I also have the greatest admiration for you Peter Moore, for carrying on Caroline and expanding the service as well into Flashback. Let Loving Awareness rule please. I know that you rely on some people to keep the technical side of things going and they do a good job as well, the solar panels are also a clever bonus. WW

The first post appeared on G.S with a header such as ' VERY INTERESTING '. I had never seen the TV footage before and indeed I found it very interesting. As I cannot post on G.S I mentiond it here. I don't see why it is a pity and I don't worship at the altar of Loving Awareness.

On the subject of being banned I saw an outraged post by Paul R saying that he had been banned from
a radio forum. I don't know which one only that he was incensed. When I looked again to glean more information the posts had gone.

Is it possible to make the font bigger here, I can barely see what I am typing.
