Is Pirate Radio Still A Thing?

You would think that fans of the original land based pirates in the UK would be keen that the legacy of those stations is also remembered. What better way than doing that than giving a big thumbs up to those who keep the free radio flag flying over the big cities of our country today!

Yet over the last two decades rather than support them, an awful lot of older anoraks have derided such stations, following the mantra of OFCOM, BBC, and commercial radio stations that they are all a bunch of drug dealers, illegal party messengers, and basic criminals.

Just like Tony Benn calling the sixties offshore stations 'pirates that should be outlawed' and the persistent attempts of the Post Office and the DTI to shut everything land-based down from the seventies on-wards (and of course the eighties offshore stations) most older anoraks today seem to have switched sides and agree these are 'not real pirates' and must be silenced.

I say most, because not everyone swallows the propaganda of our wonderful authorities, and the closet and sometimes very open racist opinions of narrow minded individuals that simply want shot of them because they are the wrong colour, or that the music they play is just a noise (do any of you remember hearing that about pop music in the sixties?).

However FM free radio is still about as last years video below confirms.

I have now left an edit contribution on the Talk page related to the Wikipedia article for Radio Caroline - pointing out that it 1960s section is 100% fake.

Now let's see how long it takes for the Anoraks to claim that my edit is fake and that Norcros is spelt with two 's', and that Jimmy Ross did fund Radio Caroline but that his name was really Carl Johnny Ross of Ross Frozen Foods.

The entire 1960s article segment about Radio Caroline on Wikipedia is fake, so I did not try to change or delete the article, merely point out that it is fake with regards to the 1960s.

In the past Anoraks have deleted and denounced me in order to preserve and promote the big lie of Rusling-Clark and now Malcolm Smith.

How long will it take them this time?

They still exist but less so now, internet radio took over. Why risk police and legal issues when you can just broadcast through the internet. A lot of prominent stations went "official" as well (e.g rinse).

That said, pirates are absolutely, without a doubt at all, an instrumental element of British urban music culture for decades. You really cannot understate their impact - you have to remember that mainstream radio was not going to be playing your latest grime anthem, or the underground garage hits, or the jungle riddims you're blasting our your window. The pirates were.

Dubstep and grime for example both flourished on pirates. Early grime in particular wasn't really about releasing tunes, it was about raves and (pirate) radio. the scene would be very different without them.

This book has been mentioned but I don't as a rule say much about it as I threw it together and I ain't proud of it only that it set out what I knew and what I thought at the time, this being 1992.

I started a manuscript called Twelve More Difficult Years, but lost interest and tore it up.

More recently I started again and had to find a new title namely 38 More Difficult Years. To indicate my much changed thinking and experiences I incororated ' Butterfly ' in to the new text.

Whether I will ever finish it or be able to or dare to publish it is an open question.

In the past both you and Agb have attacked the ongoing research project that is still attempting to uncover the real story behind the creation of Radio Caroline in 1964.

Now you are promoting the very same information.

Clearly your knowledge is limited because a lot of the new data has not been put on line, and Chris Edwards who was partnering in this research, bailed out when he feared that he was about to scuttle his own OEM with newly discovered information which totally destroys the claims of Ronan O'Rahilly.

Now you can also see the problem that Chris has created for himself and the huge problem that Malcolm Smith has created for himself - because he is in danger of his own words being used against him to sink his Charity scam (it is built upon a lie - a fraud).

That being the case, and since you offered to work with Malcolm Smith, why not work with the party that is actually being honest and telling the truth?

Slightly off topic, but how is it 6 months ago a media photo of Phillip Schofield would be airbrushed to look like an add for Sanatogen and toothpaste superman and now he looks like a dosser asking you for change and peg teeth?

OK I know the photos of celebs are done up. Who doesn't want to look nice and have nice clothes and glasses and soundproof GCSE study space at Lord Ali's expense

But why does anyone who has stepped in front of a camera think that TV/ Hollywood will love them for ever

This is just not the case. They are commodities to be passed around in rehabilitation for ratings and freak show interest

Next week Phil goes round Britain in a Campervan with Kier Starkers wondering if anyone remembers when they were glove puppets

What myself workers and partners have had to put up with over the last 7 years includes .

* Anorak loon flying to Barcelona and filming himself on twitter pissing on our office door

*Threats online to my wife

*Nutter turning up at our children's village school and hurling abuse at her

* PM bloging bullshit under a fake name that was revealed by our lawyers

* RC presenter emailing clients with fake allegations which resulted in costing him (PM) thousands in legal fees

* Ofcom totally aware of all of this and we're on the verge on pulling the plug on RC

* I have a file 2 inches thick of all the dirty tricks played my PM and his madmen

Hi, good wishes to all. Personally this October 1st resonates with me as the day I got so fed up with the increasingly useless Opera browser that after a huge 7 hour struggle I finally evicted it from my PC and went Duck a go go by default. I don't doubt in 5 years that will be a lame duck as well but the phantom Opera was just close down diabolical. 800 bookmarks gone which has probably done me a favour and I view it as turning a new page. I don't recommend anyone installs that garbage. It will give you nothing but bad dreams and then some halloween candy crush

I thought it best that the Queen and my magazine didn't get involved with anything that could have legal consequences.

Roger T, please feel free to send Mr Burns my direct mail. I think you have it but I don't want to post it here.

Concerning the above and just as an example I did some time ago become so exasperated by the rantings of Mervyn Hagger that I spent a modest amount seeking legal advice from a specialist.

I was of course fizzing with indignation at his comments that I was a liar,fraudster, a taker of funds under false pretences and that his explosive expose would collapse my house of cards such that I would reap the whirlwind of my duplicity.

At the very least I wanted him to be made to stop.

The lady lawyer first said that the idea of sueing Mervyn, probably following the popular notion that the plaintiff/instigator i.e myself might get a handsome pay out from the defendant, was for the most part mistaken.

She said of course that nobody sits down with a lawyer expecting to lose but that such is possible. She also said that it was not possible to estimate the cost of getting the case to court and further that if it were not a black and white case in my favour I may not get an award of costs or an award of damages. The defendant, she said, may not willingly pay. I may have to employ Bailiffs. If the defendant was a man of straw, a legal term for ' not having a pot to piss in ' I may never get my money, but would have to pay her in any case.

I suggested a simple ' cease and desist' letter but she said that if Mervyn was indeed as deranged as I imagined, such a letter may drive him to even more extreme action/publishing.
Finally there was a matter of the harm done as in her view if the few people reading Mervyns comments equally knew that he was deranged, then my reputation had not actually been damaged and in any case could not be quantified.
I was advised to let the matter drop and I dropped it.

So in the recent angry exchanges on the Garry forum, which have suddenly disappeared ( though nothing truly disappears from the Internet ), the pastime of gainful litigation is not as cut and dried as someone would have you beleive.

You should have added a confession that you are all of the things that you say that I said you are. Your legal advisor should have simply told you to quit while you are ahead.

Because Malcolm, a prostitute cannot sue for failure of someone to pay for illegal services, which means Malcolm, that as are a mere prostitute passing off lies for truth, and therefore you are in fact jerking yourself off

If Macolm, you really did write that post, you are so far gone down the road of conmanship, that you are now in an Orwellian state of mind where you seem to believe what you are writing is true. That being the case there is not much more than can be done to save you from yourself.

I think the key points are that it's a waste of time, effort and cash going after someone who probably has no money, who nobody thinks has any credibility, who is commonly regarded as, shall we say, not the world's most rational individual, and whose ranting are read by a miniscule audience.

It applies equally to Malcolm Smith and his steam radio enthusiasts tribute station. Just because a number of old boys from the past come back for some nostalgia, and a few awful presenters who are basically anoraks with ego's pretend they are DJ's does not make Malcolm's hobby the real deal.

How do you know that what is claimed is true or untrue - unless - YOU are a part of the "miniscule audience."?

Malcolm Smith reads the "ranting" - he consistantly says so in his posts. He is in need of a nappy change as a result, and what he fears may find its way before a gigantic, worldwide audience. He knows that the "ranting" is true.

Chris Edwards knows that OEM has a BIG problem if the "miniscule ranting" goes viral - becasue OEM is going to be exposed as a digest that was afraid to tell the truth.

As for the bucket-load of saps in Southampton who give money to support Malcolm's FRAUD, NO they are not in the "miniscule audience" and have no idea what Chris Edwards knows to be true but is afraid to hear and read any more of the facts.

Sad to say that Mr Pragmatic is an example of people who rush off to fight in someone's war and kill and maim people they do not even know.
