KLIF 1961 & Radio London

15/2/2022

Bearing in mind that KLIF would have evolved even more in style by 1964, you can still hear how the station was the model for Radio London with this aircheck. Keep in mind that the listener involvement and interaction was a whole lot easier being land based but nonetheless the groundwork for the sound of Big L is clear to be heard.
McLendon believed that programming was the key to Radio Station success. Here is one account of the early evolution of KLIF to the Top 40 format:

"Somewhere around late 1954 and early 1955, then, all of the ingredients necessary for Top 40 appeared to be coming together at KLIF. The real catalyst in the development of a true Top 40 format at KLIF was Bill Stewart and the ideas that he brought to the station from his earlier association with Todd Storz. Don Keyes recalled that Stewart came in knowing what he was doing. And that's when he really tightened the playlist. "That's when we really went Top 40 - hard Top 40. Then we took off something fierce. We were still number one prior to that. But, if I had a record I liked, I'd play it. If the other disc jockey didn't like it, he didn't play it. It was kinda loosey goosey. We had jingles and contests and promotions, but it wasn't a rigid Top 40. And Bill came in and firmed up that music policy, and away we went."

The chemistry of whatever was happening at KLIF was beginning to have noticeable impact within the Dallas radio community. KLIF's station ratings-foremost indicators of a station's well-being in the marketplace, were indeed impressive. "Within weeks after implementing Top 40, KLIF jumped from a 2 percent share of the market to 45 percent," noted one source. Another said: "In its titan days, KLIF . . . had ratings as high as 52". Bill Stewart remembered that the station went from tenth or eleventh in the market to No. 1 in 60 days" when Top 40 was introduced. Gordon himself described KLIF's position in April 1954 as "the leading metropolitan independent in the United States in share of morning audience, third in the afternoons, fourth at night, and undeniably first on Saturdays". Hooper Ratings showed the station in June 1954 to be number one in the Dallas market in every time period.

There was no doubt that KLIF was knocking the socks off the competition. But how was it doing it? The Top 40 format was only the product of a very keen intuition about what kind of radio programming people wanted to hear. Once you have ascertained what your audience wants, Gordon felt, then give it to them. On that point, Gordon once wrote:

Time and again -without exception -successful broadcast operators have proved that in order to survive and prosper financially, any radio station must provide a programming service of utility to a meaningful segment of the potential listening audience. Neither sales nor general administration nor engineering comes first. Programming does. The station failing to provide some service of unique programming utility to one or another reasonably large demographic element of the population is doomed.

The programming-ahead-of-sales philosophy was really Gordon's broadcasting credo. "You can have the greatest sales staff and signal in the world and it doesn't mean a thing if you don't have something great to put on the air," he would say. If he kept his eye on the programming, Gordon assumed, station advertising sales would take care of itself. And, of course, he was usually right.

Programming at KLIF "received the constant attention and monitoring of its owner-to the station's obvious benefit". Gordon was convinced that much of his programming success stemmed directly from all of his attention to every detail. Gordon was forever fine-tuning his Top 40 format, while other station owners watched and followed suit. "People were coming to Dallas and monitoring KLIF, leaving with a briefcase full of tapes and going back to their hometown and doing likewise," noted Don Keyes. (It was not long before KLIF would become "America's most imitated radio station", and with good reason.) When asked what kind of audience he was programming KLIF for, Gordon replied rather matter-of-factly: "I geared it toward what I would like to hear. I assumed the audience to be interested in what I would like to hear".

KLIF uttered one last gasp before McLendon sold it and that was in the 1980s. I was there writing about KLIF for Don Pierson's magazine which Genie Baskir edited. By the way. I sat in that studio shown in the inset picture and then flew around the towers of downtown Big D in the KLIF 'bubble' copter. All of this and more as the partwork book covers these events.

Last night, after several text revisions and additions, for the very first time anywhere, the real story behind Radio KLIF London, as well as the long hidden story about the mv Olga Patricia, began to appear in context and made available for all to read here: https://www.allaboutradiocaroline.co.uk/home/genies-story

This is now Precursory Chapter 14 of a partwork that many have dared us (The Trio) to publish and name the names involved and give details of what these people did.

You can now read what others who have tried to investigate the post-radio history of the Olga Patricia tried to uncover. One person in particular who we are not naming because he has asked us not to do so, has an impeccable character and he has also spent an incredible amount of time working on the Olga Patricia story. It was this person who repeatedly kept asking us what caused Don Pierson to fly off the handle when he was asked just one question. That person kept repeating his own question about that interview question - until we finally uncovered the answer, and that answer is tied to the history of the Olga Patricia and a whole lot more.

It is a story that is being told in the form of combined biographies of three people who are self-identified as 'The Trio'. Now you can read for yourself how and why these three individuals got together decades ago, and what they came to know about the real story about 'Radio London', 'Radio England' and 'Britain Radio'.

For many years there existed a constant threat of severe retaliation if this story was ever told. Due to the deaths of many, and the passage of time regarding a few, even though some fears of retaliation still remain, it is now believed that the wisest thing to do is tell the world what we (Trio) now know, because once the world knows what we now know, then the fear factor is reduced to a retaliation factor which can be immediately addressed by us filing reports of criminal activities by the people concerned, and the glare of additional publicity that would result, would be far greater than that of saying nothing and staying away from the media.

Chapter Fourteen is a precursory chapter, meaning that it may be edited and expanded before print publication. We will not be deleting it because it is a true story of the lives lived by the people concerned.

Sources will appear in the print version, but if you want to check out anything, you are of course welcome to perform your own verification, even though you won't find the complete story anywhere else at the moment but only at https://www.yesternoir.org/

UKRAINE HAS JOINED NATO
19/2/2022 07:21:43 am

If you watched Joe Biden's press conference last night and read the reports, Biden said that Putin has already decided to invade Ukraine and that the USA has made Ukraine a DE FACTO member of NATO by shipping all the arms they want.

How could Biden do that without Ukraine being a part of NATO?

Easy, make it a member of NATO without a formal declaration.

Since this is all about Putin not wanting Ukraine to be in NATO, this is why Biden is so confident that Putin is going to invade Ukraine.

Why?

Hunter Biden's financial entanglement with Ukraine.

Who needs a membership card?

Joe Biden say this about citizenship. Who needs it? All you need is residence so he believes in open borders.

Joe Biden is acting out the lyrics of John Lennon's 'Imagine', because Joe Biden's politics have the same meaning and both Lennon's song (nice tune) and Biden's politics are utopianism which is nuts.

This is a world of serial killers and mad men and women wandering around practicing their craft.

I cannot see what this "he had £100 in his pocket" had anything to do with it

How many times have we read about Ellis island Immigrants perhaps Jews arriving dollar less, selling handkerchiefs from suitcases in Piccadilly Circus and founding business empires in Manhatten and Brick Lane. John Major came from Brixton and ending up running a bank and ruining a country. Your observations really mean very little. I hope you saw the highly respected Anglia TV weather report last week when the accepted farce mjaore of modern radio was seen for 3 seconds being stable but warren buffeted. How many men arrive in a foreign country with "£100 in his pocket" and then less than 3 years later can buy a ship, transmitters, set up a sales agency, hire crew and broadcasting staff?

How many?

Now add a world crisis hovering on the brink of a nuclear WWIII.

No company, no business plan, no one supports this fantastic fairy tale, except that other Jesus who turned one loaf and one fish into enough to feed a vast crow.

In the real world the story of Jesus O'Rahilly would be seen as childish nonsense.

On the other hand, anoraks like James will believe that pigs can fly if the teller pretends to be Pink Floyd.

Ronan's Fish 'n' Bread Shop
22/2/2022 09:12:34 am

Ronan arrived in London sometime in 1961 with £100 in his pocket.

By March 1964, Ronan had bought a ship, imported transmitters; outfitted a studio; hired a ship's crew and some guys to broadcast and paid for fuel, etc., etc., etc., all with the same £100.

He has NO track record of EVER forming a company to accomplishing any of this, nor has he shown ANY evidence of how he got this money.

All he had was that £100 - which means that Rusling's Bible has ripped off that Jesus story about bread and fish.

Ronan is a miracle worker - the messiah - only he kicked the bucket without telling anyone how he did it.

Come on James and the rest of you drooling kids, explain why your Ronan cult is nothing more than a tale that only an idiot would believe?

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought, but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes
Clear your heart
Cut the cord
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well
You've gotta let me go
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know, is your heart still beating?
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
You've gotta let me know
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
Are we human
Or are we dancer?
Are we human
Or are we dancer?

Perhaps the best known oligarch in the UK is Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club. Worth an estimated $14.3bn (£10.2bn), he made his fortune selling previously Russian state-owned assets he had acquired following the fall of the Soviet Union.

Another is Alexander Lebedev, a former KGB officer and banker, whose son Evgeny is the proprietor of the London Evening Standard newspaper. Evgeny is a UK citizen and has been made a member of the House of Lords.

Ukraine not top concern for US Republicans

Anthony Zurcher

BBC North America reporter

The Conservative Political Action Conference, or Cpac for short, is usually a good way to gauge the mood of grass-roots activists within the Republican Party in the US.

If the four-day event that concluded in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday night is any indication, the conservative base of the party is much more interested in the upcoming congressional mid-term elections in November and defeating Democrats than they are about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Top Republicans in office like Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Senator Rick Scott, didn’t mention Ukraine at all in their speeches.

Donald Trump, who took the stage on Saturday night, offered a quick condemnation of the invasion, but spent more time defending himself.

First over his interactions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that led to his first impeachment.

And then for his statements earlier this week calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “genius”. He added that Nato nations and current US leadership were "dumb".

One of Trump more loyal supporters, Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, went further, questioning why the US should be “footing the bill for Ukraine” by imposing sanctions that could damage the American economy.

The war in Ukraine should encourage the world to accelerate the switch to renewable energy, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said.

His message comes as the UN issues its bleakest assessment yet of how climate change is affecting the world.

"Fossil fuels are a dead end," Guterres said.

The UN chief said the conflict in Ukraine shows continuing to rely on fossil fuels "makes the global economy and energy security vulnerable to geopolitical shocks and crises".

He added that a "prompt, well-managed transition to renewables" is the only pathway to energy security and the green jobs the world needs.

A quarter of the European Union's petroleum oil imports come from Russia, along with almost half its gas.

The irony that European nations are effectively paying for the war in Ukraine has not been lost on the continent's leaders.

The panic that Putin's actions caused in energy markets has only increased the profits Russia makes by driving up the price we all pay for energy - which is one reason we are already seeing a dramatic pivot to alternative supplies.

Thank you Mr. Putin!
1/3/2022 08:55:40 am

At last a new war that is not just good for the manufacturers of killing machines (and their shareholders), but another war using tanks depending on oil to move ahead. Oil stopped Hitler on the outskirts of Moscow, and oil defeated Rommel in North Africa. The tanks ran out of fuel.

The Fifth Column with its poster child of Greta Thunberg got the oil turned off in the USA and UK over 'Climate Change' - now being rebranded (again) as 'Global Warming'), so that the subject is not about shells fired from tanks, but about the oil needed to move those tanks.

Now this is why we say "thank you Mr. Putin" - you who once sang Fats Domino's 'Blueberry Hill' at a Fundraising Dinner for a Children's charity = you Mr Putin have refocused attention on oil and gas.

Nordstrom One is already pumping to Germany, but it is Nordstrom Two that has become the topic of debate. It is all about oil and gas. Donald Trump halted imports and began exports, and now Biden is importing from RUSSIA. So go ahead with the embargos Mr Biden because only when the American cars can't run on cheap fuel will Americans give a darn about the Ukraine or Russia or Nordstrom (the name of an expensive US department store) .... and we?

Well, when the average person demands answers to the truth about oil and gas we will have hopefully published enough details about Churchill; Texans; Halliburton; Sherwood Forest; REM island and Radio Caroline that suddenly the Greta Thunberg - Ronan O'Rahilly class of ignorant idiots will be forgotten and so will talk of '648' and etc., and etc., and we will get down to basics: MONEY.

INVESTMENTS

Armaments - planes, tanks, etc., are no good without FUEL.

Churchill, as devious and two-faced as he was, understood this and said so. We (4FWS) repeatedly broadcast his WWII speech on that subject. Anoraks are really, really stupid people. They are a classroom of stupid people.

They are not focused upon what the teacher says but on the clothes that the teacher is wearing. It is not about the MUSIC, it is about the OIL and even the pirate radio (CAROLINE) and TELEVISION (REM) stations of the Sixties needed OIL to operate.

No OIL and no BEATLES.

Get it now?

No OIL and no ROMMEL.

No OIL and no MOSCOW.

Yes the Russian Winter (Global Warming - HA!) played its part but OIL was the one factor that made the Nazi Army and Air Force move ahead.

No OIL and NO BOMBS (or shells).

The best investment?

No armaments but OIL.

You can't run a tank powered by sunshine panels or whirlygigs called windmills.

You need OIL.

Who is telling you all this?

BBC? NO!

CNN? Don't make us laugh!

This spot with Mike is where you will find the true story, but are you sensible enough to read and verify what Mike is telling you, or are you wondering about atmospherics and long dead shortwave broadcasting or even near-dead Medium Wave stations that few listen to?

Long live '648'?

Tell that to the Ukrainians looking for the truth about what is happening. I am sure that they are all trying to find out what LP that Malcolm Smith is going to put on his turntable next.

So thank you Mr Putin. The lesson you are repeating once told by Mr Hitler are from too long ago. Your lesson is about those OIL driven tanks advancing on the capital of Ukraine.

The topic ladies and gentlemen of the real world is OIL.

How did we get into this NORDSTROM mess?

Ask Hunter Biden and his Ukranian buddies.

Ask Greta Thunberg and her dellusional school pals.

Ask Malcolm Smith.

Ask Garry Stevens.

Ask James McGregor.

Ask Atlantisgb!

What about sanctions?

What sanctions?

Russia is running on oil not windmills and solar panels.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is all about OIL

Ask your government representative why the USA is still paying Russia 100 million dollars a day for oil.

Special Counsel Finds Mark Zuckerberg’s Election Money Violated Wisconsin Bribery Laws

Nearly $9 million in Zuckerberg grant funds directed solely to five Democratic strongholds in Wisconsin violated the state’s election code’s prohibition on bribery. That conclusion represents but one of the many troubling findings detailed in the report submitted today by a state-appointed special counsel to the Wisconsin Assembly.

Last August, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos authorized the Office of Special Counsel, headed by retired state Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman, to investigate concerns about election integrity and the 2020 election. Gableman delivered an interim report to the state assembly on November 10, 2021. Earlier today, the special counsel provided a second interim report to the state legislative body, noting the report “is final in the sense that it provides a list of recommendations with time for the Legislature to act before the close of its session in March.”

While the special counsel’s nearly 150-page report closed with recommendations for the state’s legislative body, Gableman stressed from the get-go that the report did not seek to re-analyze the re-count that occurred in late 2020. Nor was the report’s purpose to challenge certification of the presidential election. Rather, the report represented a small step toward fulfilling “the duty of all citizens of our State and our nation to work hard to secure our democracy for this generation and the next,” the special counsel explained.

From the details exposed in Monday’s special counsel report, the state legislature has much work to do to address “the numerous questionable and unlawful actions of various actors in the 2020 election.” The first unlawful action, according to the report, concerned the payment of grant funds to five Wisconsin counties that were used to facilitate voting. That arrangement, Gableman wrote, violated Wis. Stat. § 12.11, which prohibits election bribery by providing it is illegal to offer anything of value to or for any person in order to induce any elector to go to the polls or vote.

According to the report, Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg providing financing that allowed the Center for Tech and Civic Life to offer nearly $9 million in “Zuck Bucks” to Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Kenosha and Green Bay counties. In exchange, the “Zuckerberg 5,” as the report called the counties, in effect, operated Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts. Those grant funds then paid for illegal drop boxes to be placed in Democratic voting strongholds.

The illegal use of drop boxes represented a second area of concern to the special counsel’s office. The report notes state election code limits the manner in which ballots may be cast, providing that an elector must personally mail or deliver his or her ballot to the municipal clerk, except where the law authorizes an agent to act on the behalf of the voter.

The Zuckerberg 5 also violated the federal and state constitutional guarantee of equal protection, according to the special counsel report. The grant money targeted specific voters for special voting privileges, to the disadvantage of similarly situated voters located in other Wisconsin counties. The report also detailed troubling evidence the Zuckerberg 5 counties allowing private groups working with the granting organization, the Center for Tech and Civic Life, to “unlawfully administer aspects of the election,” including in one county where one organization was unlawfully embedded in local government election administration.

The special counsel’s report also highlighted the Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC) illegal directive to clerks to ignore the state election code governing voting in nursing homes. In several nursing home locations throughout the state, 100 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in the 2020 election—an unheard-of rate that included many ineligible voters.

Non-citizen and incapacitated citizens also remained listed on Wisconsin’s voting rolls, in violation of the law, according to the report. Because some non-citizens qualify for driver’s licenses, the law requires non-citizens’ names be removed from the master roll, but that was not done, according to the special counsel. Likewise, individuals declared incompetent must, by law, be removed from the master list, but again that did not occur.

The special counsel investigating the 2020 election calls for decertification. Every politician in the state, from Governor to State Assembly immediately panic just like deep state lackeys always do.

>Republican Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke rejected the call to decertify the election.

>Ann Jacobs, the Democratic chair of the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission, tweeted that Gableman was promoting a “crazy conspiracy theory” and that decertifying the election was “IMPOSSIBLE. NOT LEGAL.”

>Democratic Gov. Tony Evers called Gableman’s work a “circus,” an “embarrassment for our state” and a “colossal waste of taxpayer dollars” that spreads misinformation about the election, attacks the integrity of election workers and emboldens people to harass and demean public servants.

The Book No One Expected
2/3/2022 12:42:42 pm

Have you seen the latest chapters in the book that no one expected? It is naming names and it is not by MH, but by a 2nd person of 'The Trio'. It is already touching on the VoP and is about to discuss the revival of Radio London and the real story behind the story. The book is ultimately about oil and gas and not about golden oldies. You might want to start reading and then shut up with the anorak comments because in the end Malcolm's supporters are going to look very, very stupid. (Even more stupid than they are now and that is a big claim to make good on!)

Not since the Cold War have the stakes been so high, after Vladimir Putin put his nuclear arsenal on high alert. Britain has a little-known network of subterranean shelters that, despite having been decommissioned, remain as serviceable as ever. Guy Kelly and Sarah Newey explore what the bunkers are really like and who would be first in line to use them.

Finally, today is World Book Day and we have a recommendation for you. As Colin Freeman explains in his four-star review, Tomorrow’s People attempts to answer the question of whether there are too many people in the world – or not enough.

Hi Mervyn, I imagine it's you with all these daft long winded names

It's just dawned on me that the Late author Paul Harris (Pirate King of newspaper cuttings) was a a clever chap who wrote books about other things like the Scottish oil industry. I wonder what they said and if there was any crossover with his other interests. Or if it just sailed over his head. BTW Stop saying I like RT Russia. I am just making interesting incursions and observations into how the anorak brocades are being stitched up. I think the church will soon fall and there will be more sirens of Malcom Smith cultists wailing. I also think GS has a mole who passes through secret web tunnels to you!

Comrades. We are where we are now. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. I don't care what was done or said before I was born. It has no relevance to the modern world. Where it is clear that trouble and strife can be traced back to the stone age. Ronan left us in an independent self determination state. Glory to Ronan. My focus now is leading my tribe onwards and up the spout. Ever so modest and humble glory to me for ever. Don't read other boards and certainly don't read any books that our web site does not sell. It's all doom scrolling and 20 obsessive pirate radio freaks using using multiple identities. I pity them in their eternal struggle with reception reports of my radio station. Glory to 648

It was immediately met with bipartisan criticism.

Republican Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke rejected the call to decertify the election.

“Still not legal under Wisconsin law,” Steineke tweeted. “Beyond that, it would have no practical impact b/c there is no Constitutional way to remove a sitting president other than through impeachment or incapacity. Fools errand. Focus on the future.”

Pirate Radio's loving war on the Ukraine
3/3/2022 07:51:08 am

The radio ships ran on oil, not on windmills. Finally, on British television news concerning the Ukraine they broadcast the facts: the USA is spending a 100 million a day on imported Russian oil. Germany and Italy are also major buyers and the UK still pays Russia for 5% of its oil. So screw "sanctions", as a British commentator responded "So we are financing Putin's invasion!" What a joke. What a joke. Not only that but those Russian tanks and planes don't run on solar panels or windmills but on oil and Russia is the number two supplier to the world! Putin says "Thank you Greta Thunberg and other fools for turning off you own domestic oil and gas and for financing our war" This is such a sick joke because if the West says "no' to Russian oil, the clock is turned back to the 70s and in Britain due to lack of oil and gas, the nation had to go on a 3 day work week and the lights went out. The solution? Easy. Turn on those domestic oil supplies that were shut off and flood the world with cheap oil and gas. It can be done, but not with idiots like AOC and her child actor Greta telling stupid stories about icebergs and polar bears. This world runs on oil and gas. Ask the ghost of Rommel why his tanks stopped in WWII North Africa, or why Nazi troops had difficulty getting to Moscow, and where they were headed: to capture those Russian oil fields. The enemy is fake news blasting out everywhere. This Ukrainian War is OUR war. We are paying for it. "Enjoy it while it lasts."

Jokes of the day as if there are any:

"US congressman: Ban on Russian oil is first priority
A US ban on Russian oil will be the first priority for lawmakers, Congressman Mike Quigley told CNN a short while ago.

"The first thing you'll see Congress push for is an embargo," he said, noting that around 8% of US oil imports are from Russia.

An embargo would be "traumatic for our European allies", who are more dependent, the Illinois Democrat said. "So that's going to take quite a bit of diplomacy."

His comments come after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with Quigley and more than 300 of his colleagues, calling for a bar on the import of Russian oil.

A ban on Russian oil has provided a rare moment of bipartisan co-operation in the US Congress - both Republican and Democratic lawmakers have publicly pressured the Biden administration to implement an embargo.

The US is one of the world's biggest oil producers, whereas the EU relies on imports to meet 61% of its energy needs.

Shell said it would commit profits from its "limited amount of Russian oil" to a dedicated fund going towards humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Shell said earlier this week it will end all of its joint ventures with the Russian energy company Gazprom due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It said it will also sell its 50% stake in two Siberian oilfield projects.

Russian oil exports account for about 8% of global supply. There has been a growing push in recent days for countries to shun Russian oil and gas - a move currently being considered by the United States.
