A Tale Of Two Forums

I think it's about time to clarify my own position on Pirate/Free radio fans often referred to as Anoraks (Just like train spotters & other niche hobby groups) and also how I feel about the current Radio Caroline run by Malcolm / Peter & his volunteer associates.

Having listened to offshore radio since the 1960's along with so many land based pirates I know only to well how easy it is to become passionate about both. The dramas, adventures, that feeling of beating the system, are as much apart of the journey as is the actual broadcast output. That said in these licensed radio days (along with internet radio) the focus has shifted amongst anoraks to music formats where a never ending argument on what is the (non existent) perfect music format remains ongoing. Everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks theirs is best.

So what is my opinion regarding anoraks. Well they are all individuals that don't fit comfortably into any specific camp. Some have done free radio, some have funded or assisted over the years and others have just listened and enjoyed their favorite station(s). A noisy few who often hide behind fake names & multiple identities (some do it well and someone dose it badly) tarnish their reputation and at times make the forums the joke boards they are described as.

The one thing I struggle with is the obsession. The refusal by some that the real history of Radio Caroline might be different to the yarns spun by Ronan O'Rahilly & others. There is being loyal and there is being in denial. Researching the past to gain an accurate historical account is a role many have, plenty as full time careers. Why be frightened if your rose tinted viewpoint turns out to be wrong?

I just don't get why a few remain so dogmatic that their story can be the only reliable account. But in the grand scheme of things all of this is really quite trivial. Just looking at the numbers of people who visit Garry Stevens or Dave Martins forum confirms that Free Radio Anoraks are a declining species who in reality make no difference to the decisions made by those who run stations like Radio Caroline. Current traffic for both sites is shown below, the top being the GS forum the lower one is for DM's. Some anoraks may shout & get into a huff, others even apparently threaten but in reality they are a handful of individuals that have no impact, it really is their problem & they can keep it.

As regards the numbers below, you will spot the parallels across both sites, I wonder how many visit both. In total though these are not high numbers & interestingly by looking at them combined we are clearly getting visitors now from both forums compared to our visitor traffic.

So what about today's Radio Caroline. Well I laughed when I recently watched 'Peter Moore' explaining that there was no choice for music lovers in the early 1960's and Georgie Fame couldn't get on the radio so Ronan had to start one (I still wonder if he was just trying to wind someone up). The reality for me based on a considerable amount of documented evidence that I have been shown is that you cannot link what followed as Radio Caroline in the seventies to the original sixties station, neither is it in the best interests of today's version to do so as time will tell.

That there is a real connection between Radio Caroline in the 1970's & 1980's is for me quite reasonable, however if you follow the money, then many different individuals actually funded the Caroline offshore ventures and things become very murky again & without doubt some dodgy deals took place along the line.

So what about the licensed version of Radio Caroline today. Put simply I do not have a problem with it. I am not a listener as such although I did try and see if the 648 signal had improved (now how anorak is that!), sadly it has not where I live. I am with Mervyn in terms of the current version trying to enforce a clear link back to the original, because based on the evidence seen that is factually wrong. That there is a tacit link back to the seventies & eighties offshore days is for you to decide. For some Radio Caroline ceased in 1990 when the boat came home. Others disagree.

My final thought on this at the moment is this. The current Radio Caroline can and should just move on and not be reliant on it's history to remain relevant. Capital Radio doesn't rely on it's history yet it survives with a vastly inferior format to the heady days of the 1970 - 80's (imho). I have my own internet radio station that keeps me amused & yes doing radio can be fun. I am keeping that little station well separated from this place & for good reason, it has some listeners & I don't want to frighten them off.

I am interested in the origins but surely as Ray Clark and Peter Moore and a lot of others voice. The Caroline station went through many incarnations. On and offshore and on other peoples stations and a ship if it suited them

I cannot see why Mervyn objects to the acceptance of the many different aspects of the Caroline entity or the every populist anorak stroke up aimed in his direction that there is a traceable bloodline

I think Paul and the others like writing war story books and Mervyn, out on his own or with company does on the one hand like looking at the battlefield maps like a General plotting his next campaign

And in the next war room he walks to he has joined CND to find the secret deals that bought the Cruise missiles to Britain

The problem with you James and all of the other trolls is that you are reading the rubbish spouted by Rusling - you are NOT reading what we have explained over and over and over again.

We have recently been plagued with David LW under his real name trying to get us to attack both Rusling and Smith to get Smith's license/s revoked. David LW claims to have been in touch with Ofcom over Smith's license/s.

We keep telling David LW that we don't care what Smith does. We have NO interest in his eponymous tiny station. Nor do we care what Rusling does - except when he STEALS from us to create this phony timeline from the past to Smith's eponymous station called Caroline.

When Rusling does this he CONFUSES the likes of you. You think we care but we don't. We keep telling trolls to go away.

So to make it very clear for the millionth time or whatever it is right now, we are only interested in what happened in the semi-legal phase between 1964-1967 and the events leading up to it.

Ronan O'Rahilly was working for his dad at the time and then, he went too far and believed his own bullshit after 1967 and his father essentially disowned him. But the real Radio Caroline was part of a conglomerate of interests that included Ronan's father. Ronan's father made money out of the 1964 start-up but not in the way everyone has been told.

Radio Caroline from 1964 to 1967 goes straight into the IBA timeline - not to the Mi Amigo that Rusling went on board.

Then, in the 80s we got roped in by Alan Weiner and the FCC and the DTI/RIS and John Burch with Chris England to undertake an investigation into the Ross Revenge.

But all of our main interests are focused upon 1964 to 1967 which partly began in 1959 with Alfred Nicholas Thomas when he retired from the BBC, and an entire assembly of interests based in Shipley, Yorkshire that goes straight to the formation of the IBA and the start of licensed commercial radio. This Yorkshire connection links with Pye and the Isle of Man.

That's what we are working on.

We also had to solve the problem of how Ian Cowper Ross got involved and why. His father was in the dry cleaning business and we have now mapped out his entire life and two marriages and many changes of address that all began in Chelsea. It was Ian's step-brother who got into the automated car wash business in Chelsea and that business links very nicely to the dry cleaning industry - which in Ian's father's instance began in Scotland. We have even bought old letterheads with Ian's father's name on it!

Everything Rusling has spouted is a LIE created out of some facts stolen from us and twisted to fit a ridiculous and very childish storyline.

We have spent a LOT of time and MONEY and that is why we are PISSED OFF when trolls like you come along and pretend to be smart and help the crooks to steal from us, and the hypocrites like Garry Stevens to present a forum with threads on which mindless GOONS attack us.

These idiots NEVER attack our thesis, they only attack people like the little children they are. They cannot attack our research but they can drag in mindless females like DAWN who cringes every time we are mentioned. WHY? Has she studied out work? No. She (DAWN) worships the ground that the now dead Ronan used to walk on with other peoples' money - just like Rusling.

What is a big deal is our discovery that a close relative with over 50 books to his credit is now walking in the footsteps of Herbert W. Armstrong and pretending that he is not. Where we differ is that he is backing Prince Charles (future King Charles III) and we are promoting John Lilburne (1615-1657). Charles is being used to turn the United Nations into a Federal World Government. I think that Paul is gorgeous, and his hair is something to die for. i just helped him stick those little yellow tabs on this old stock of books that he can't sell. You know, the vertical sticker near the spine in the bottom left hand corner. Paul was laughing his usual fun way about Haggerly's complaints about Paul stealing from Haggerly. Paul says its because Haggerly is jealous of Paul because Haggerly doesn't know how to steal and get away with it like Paul.

Thank you James for your kind words.

Assume you'd read MH pages. I would add I've had nothing to do with him for several years. Originally believed he was writing a book, and shared some Public record documents with him (also shared same with Ray Clark and Paul Rusling) that he accuses others of "stealing" from him.
All I can say is that at least Ray and Paul have written books. If MH does ever publish a book, then we will judge it for ourselves.

Oh this board is independent, in fact it's all mine! If stupid snide & pointless attacks are made, or misleading information presented it does not get through. I am in the loop on some matters, such as the documented evidence regarding the beginnings of Caroline.

Because so many choose to fall for Paul Rusling's 'Mr Nice Guy who would not do anything wrong' image, does not alter the truth being just that. So those who come here ranting that MH is wrong & Rusling is right are basing that on who they prefer the most rather than tangible evidence.

You cannot counter the facts so you attack the messenger. Yes MH can be brutal with his responses, but none of us are little children that need to go off crying to mummy every time he barks at you.

Try looking at the evidence presented so far & when it starts to unfold in book form from the trio who are preparing it, you might understand why I think the current Radio Caroline might want to distance themselves from the real original.

I used to listen to John Humphries back when he was on in the mornings on Radio 4. I was in Texas so I heard him 'live' via the Internet in the afternoons, which is 6 hours behind UK time.

I used to think if I could get through a slice and dice John Humphries interview, I could get through anyone else's interview. I loved Rush Limbaugh for that reason. It was cut to the issue and cut out the flim-flam.

I did that on the 4FWS shows I made - especially responding to Steve England and Johnnie Walker making fun of Don Pierson who they did not know and Steve England had to amend his Tapetrix product as a result of my 4FWS show.

I turned from liking Johnnie Walker (I was in the UK listening to him 'live' on Caroline South until the end in March 1968.) When I heard him attack Don's dead mother, I blasted back with an interview I made with Don. His mother had died when he was 13 and Don was adopted.

There are many two-faced idiots out there like Johnnie Walker who read that STUPID message at midnight on August 14, 1967 which Walker says O'Rahilly wrote.

It was stupid because it does not make literary sense! It says that Harold Wilson recognized Radio Caroline. It was sarcasm - not factuality. By then O'Rahilly had become a self-professed anarchist hating the UK and government in general. His admission that he was an anarchist politically is on camera!

His father was a successful Englishman who built a business with the help of both the Irish and BRITISH governments and eventually washed his hands of Ronan.

This is why I define idiots as idiots.

I am not going to dance around playing nice when these idiots are not helping others but stealing from others.

As Kitty Black remarked, in the end Ronan O'Rahilly achieved absolutely NOTHING. Those who think that he did are brain dead IDIOTS who don't look behind the curtain and discover who the Wizard of Oz really was.

John Humphries has retired and mellowed.

I have not.

However, my bite is not as bad as my bark.

All Rusling has to do even now, is just stop stealing and apologize.

I would take issue with 'Mr Brutal'.

Firstly, he is not in the same league as the likes of John Humphries or similar commentators. A bombastic approach is all well and good, but not at the play ground level he displays.

Secondly, what he fails to grasp is that for many it is not the research and deductions he makes which turn people against him, but it is the personal attacks and failure to produce an end product. He would command a modicum of respect if he and his associates had just completed their research, published the long promised book, and let it stand on it's own.

It seems that almost daily a new target must be found to attack as if this was the raison d'etre. Such a waste of effort and time which has deflected the Trio from their intended path. Sometimes it appears that confrontation is the objective and not incidental to the project.

This is why the Trio and Hagger in particular have become objects of ridicule and get as good as they give. I sometimes wonder if Hagger, who appears to be the principal generator of personal attacks, is an embarrassment to the rest of the Trio who have remained silent and do not contribute or come to his defence.

Not until a coherent, published and printed book is available for purchase will Hagger & Co have any credibility in the radio world, the academic world or amongst the public at large.

I hope a book is forthcoming. I look forward to reading it.

My one and only point, which has been misinterpreted on the Yesternoir blog, is that in November 2020 a book with the working title ' Dial 999 For Caroline' was promised 'very soon' but did not materialise.

I can read visible text, you seem to read text that does not exist. Chris Edwards wrote in a thread about Rusling's book and others then wrote about MH, but in his last comment in Rusling's thread, CE did not write anything about the 'Trio', in fact that seems to be the big issue here: no one has commented on a book by the 'Trio' only on a book by MH which MH never promised. Meanwhile the world waits on the book by Rusling which he definitely did offer to sell. You are obviously pulling the wool over our eyes, not just peeing on our legs.

Rusling has the story so wrong because he refused to do any research. The Trio did not know many of the answers when Rusling stole their research which is why the Trio won't publish until they have had (and Mike has had) time to review what he has now published.

Regardless of what Rusling claims he is paying to print his rubbish and then selling it on. That is called print on demand. He may have printed 500 copies the first time and only 10 copies this time. We don't know. What we do know is that because of our constant attacks he has now delivered something (we have yet to see it) to the bookseller we bought from the first and second time.

We know that his first version is so far off the mark about Jocelyn Stevens so as to be the work of a kid who has glanced at the work of the pupil next to him who was in the process of writing something. So Rusling just filled in the blanks out of his own head and then rushed into print which in effect said: "Look everyone, my name is Paul Rusling and I am a fool."

But what Mike summed-up is spot-on. To put the real story in one sentence it is this: "Caroline was a young slut created by playboy aristocrats for the benefit of aristocrats." That's it.

Radio Caroline was NOT the product of young men the way that Garry Stevens and the Joke Board picture its beginnings in 1964. Radio Caroline was the result of a lot of aristocratic Establishment bibs and bobs with titles, and Caroline was their plaything. Their plaything, not yours Garry Stevens. Not yours Paul Rusling.

So when Mike wrote his paragraph he was spot-on. If you anoraks of 2021 want to play at radio, go ahead, but don't think for a moment that Malcolm Smith's recreation in any way shape or form captures the spirit or mimics something that came and went - forever - by 1968.

Don't listen to Pinky writing about John Humphries, he never listened to John Humphries in the mornings on Radio 4, he thinks you are talking about TeleTubbies and their disputes with a vacuum clearner. My Pinky started to write about a Trio then slipped back to talking about MH and a book. But Pinky won't go and read what you have already published in journals and books because, well, to be honest, he can't read. I agree with the comment re Rusling fawning over his perception of the aristocracy. He refers to his friend Hans Knot as Sir Hans, even though such a title is non existent in the Netherlands.

That's what we wondered whether Rusling was going to do Of course that post is not by a real named person and it could by by Paul Rusling himself!

What it means is that Rusling claims that 207 pages of his 500 page book have been written in whole or in part. Why?

More facts or multiple corrections or more likely more bullshit.

But it could mean more theft.

Time will tell and in the meantime, maybe Dennis will tell the world what is in those 207 pages that is so different from the original.

This is the first indication that anything of an 'updated' manuscript exists, and this is 207 pdf pages - not a book!

It's a copy of every page there is a change on; some were shuffled around, some had text reworded, some had bits removed (mostly where two people said the same thing - it just makes it easier to read as a story).

As I understand it, the so called Trio have in their possession a copy of the original RCB and therefore are eligible for the pdf file update. They, or Mike, could therefore conduct a detailed analysis of the differences, and when they receive the updated book version, could compare that to the other two. Something to keep everyone occupied over the Christmas period.

Personally, I will put my feet up with a glass of something and finish reading my copy of the updated RCB.
