It's Just About Sixty Years

As the generation that celebrated the arrival of offshore radio to parts of the UK slowly but steadily dwindle in number, we can look forward to the 60th anniversary being celebrated by Anoraks and possibly even the mainstream media if it's a slow news day.

Perhaps this will be the last hurrah for the aging, grumbling and never satisfied anoraks who sleepily continue to hope for the glory days to return (they did some years ago) or at least they can hold some sort of rose tinted memory festival as the sun sets forever over offshore radio.

Whatever, as time goes by it all becomes less and less relevant as does offshore radio and the presenters of that era. If that period of time deserves anything regarding the offshore stations, then it's an accurate and credible historical record of what really happened and why and when.

The last thing needed is another home made, print on demand, non researched rehash of a fictional story told over and over (Goebbels style), that represents little fact and a whole load of sentimental clap trap.

Maybe we will get the real facts, or some of them, so those interested in real history can feel comfortable that future generations can get the whole sixties offshore radio chapter in context, including why the government of that time went against massive public opinion and took action to stop them.

It's taken me a long long time to finally understand the whys and why not's and although I still disagree with the governments action, at least I have the context. So lets see what unfolds and whether the truth will out! Or do you wish to remain on your own personal fantasy island. Final clue: It wasn't the young Irishman who made it all happen.

haggers response to this thread.....

But on the other hand, what if it wasn't haggers response?

What if Kev wrote it?

It seems that the only one who does read these comments are friends of AgB (like Kev) so maybe he wrote it, but on the other hand someone should give me total credit for keeping these boards alive and I don't want to take credit away from myself (even for the sake of Kev.)

Thanks for your time, AgB

Merv couldn't change the Wikipedia entry for Radio Caroline or get it deleted himself as he produced no evidence. Now he wants someone else to do it for him since he can't fight his own battles.

Also, no-one 'wants so silence us' because nobody cares about his non-existent book. He thinks the State is out to get him. I'm pretty sure they follow his every move in his fantasy world.

Posted by Silver Tom on 16/3/2024, 23:38:18: "Project Atlanta started by Alan Crawford in 62 with the purchase of the Radio Nord ship later named Mi Amigo."

Oh dear, I forgot to mention that after MARCH 1963 - which is AFTER 1962, the Mi Amigo went to Galveston because Crawford did NOT have the money to buy it, and then, a man named Bill Weaver BOUGHT the entire Radio Nord station and took it to Houston.

So that does create a mystery.

If Crawford had NO money to buy the Radio Nord ship in 1962, and if the Radio Nord station was removed from the ship by a buyer in 1963, then HOW did Crawford buy something for which he had NO money the year before, and which one year later did NOT exist as a radio ship?

I suppose it was all fairy dust sprinkled by the magic of Ronan where reality is not an essential part of being an anorak.

In fact, lack of reality is a key part of being an anorak.

Now you know.

8 years ago I told Colin Morrison that he was publishing rubbish, and 8 years ago he answered me asking for help.

We exchanged a LOT of emails about what he had written concerning the bogus history of Radio Caroline, and now, 8 years later he has repeated the SAME bogus rubbish which he is using to DECEIVE British entrepeneurs via the BBC and mainstream media.

No wonder that idiot MPs were able to post an early day motion of deception and no wonder that the British Post Office has a legacy - a long legacy of murder and cruelty

This can only be stopped if ALL of the lies and deception are stopped.

We seek justice not only for the current Post Office victims, but for all of the Post Office victims it has created since 1660.

So the anoraks remember the sinking of the Mi Amigo, but not one of them can explain what happened to the Mi Amigo when it arrived in Galveston during March 1963 - minus its collapsed mast - and the ENTIRE radio station on board was SOLD to KILT Houston for spares and transported to a warehouse in Houston, leaving a rusting ship behind.

The reason why the ship went to Galveston is because in 1962 it was offered for sale to Allan Crawford and he had NO money to buy it. He wanted to lease it and Bill Weaver said "no"!

But then at the end of 1963, just after the MURDER of JFK, someone paid for the reinstallation of the entire radio station on the Mi Amigo PLUS the transmitters for a second ship called Fredericia which were loaded at Rotterdam where that ship was located.

Wijsmuller had BOTH SHIPS.

WHO CAME UP WITH THE MONEY AT THE END OF DECEMBER 1963 FOR TWO RADIO SHIPS WHEN CRAWFORD COULD NOT AFFORD ONE SHIP A FEW MONTHS EARLIER?

I know the answer, but why do the anoraks skip over this question and let a handful of silly hacks tell them yarns?

The Flashes and Flames guy wrote to me MANY times about his own errors, and now he has reposted the same rubbish that also adorns Wikipedia. Years ago I tried correcting it but ANORKS kept reversing it to rubbish.

Instead of attacking the KEY question, how about providing some KEY answers?

I am the official Board Watcher and I can tell you now that Hagger can't spell Morrison - he is using the Garry Stevens method. We need to concentrate on that. Also, I wrote that Hagger gave Ray Clark a 4 star book review a decade ago. Since Hagger has written nothing at all since then I want to know why he is attacking Ray Clark instead of praising him. I will try to keep you all informed about these big issues, because who cares about the fact that the Mi Amigo lost its radio station in Galveston. It got one back, didn't it?

It strikes me as odd that if the big issue is misspelling the name Morrison and not the fact that Ray Clark wrote a work of fiction, then why is the Board Watcher posting all his comments about misspelling on the Garry Stevens Board which is run by the King of Misspelling?

If the story put out by Ray Clark is not true, then what is the true story and why not ask Hagger for proof about his claims instead of attacking him over putting too many 'r's in the name Morrison? By the way, are you sure that he did not do that on purpose to wind you up, because the spelling below that banner is correct?

If as you say the Mi Amigo got another radio station in 1963 at Galveston, Texas, who paid for it, because just a few months before that in 1962, the ship was anchored off Essex and offered to Crawford. But because Crawford could not afford to buy it, the ship and radio station went to Galveston where the radio station was dismantled and sold off.

Surely it was a lot more expensive to pay for putting a new radio station on board the Mi Amigo in Texas in 1963, than it was to buy the ship and radio station when it was anchored off Essex in 1962?

Something does not make sense with your Ray Clark explanation.

Board Watcher please explain.

I will be watching for your response.

Old anoraks never answer the questions or statements that challenge their rose tinted and totally incorrect view of the past. Instead they just attack anyone that challenges Malcolm and his crony authors, who continue to repeat the tired lies of Ronan the thief. Ronan was skilled at using people and harassing them for their money. George Harrison realized Ronan was a conman who pocketed the cash, so Caroline in the seventies went down the pan, because the money never made it to the ship. In the eighties he got in with another American crook and once again he pocketed the money and the ship was neglected from 1985 on-wards. But don't let that stop morons from writing moronic books and doing what Ronan did, ie ripping off gullible anoraks.

Hagger has always dismissed the existence of “Jimmy” Ross. In the first print of Ray Clark’s book on page 55, there is a telegram that Ronan O’Rahilly sent to a Mr Ross celebrating Caroline coming on air. Are you suggesting this item is a fake? Or was Mr Ross truly an investor in the station?

Who cares about facts?

Well, no-one paid Tecom, as Merv calls it, it was Tecon.

True and n became and m, don't know why but it did, but now its not. So, now that this weighty issue has been dealt with, what about the question about the now you see it, now you don't and now you, radio station?

Who paid for all this?

I have fond memories of Ever deceasing circles. I thought it was alright to watch at 8 after EastEnders at 7.30. It was very poignant even though I did not appreciate the sophisticated suburban boredom humour at the age of 16. It was rerun on BBC2 a decade ago and I appreciated it a lot more
