Rock & Roll - Before Caroline

If you look closely at the music Radio Caroline played in 1964, then one genre that was clearly lacking was Rock & Roll along with many of the younger British artists and their emerging styles of pop music. As mentioned elsewhere and born out by the old recordings Radio Caroline's target market was clearly not the slowly growing gangs of Mod's and Rockers.

That said the British music scene was becoming increasingly vibrant without the help of Caroline. Radio Luxembourg and British television was limited in exposing new or up and coming artist's however the public new what they wanted and an explosion of new acts constantly arrived in the late fifties on-wards into the sixties.

You can say what you want about revolutions going to start anyway but the fact is without all day " light and popular" music broadcasting medium you are just rock and rolling in your bedroom to a Dansette

Just one problem with your analysis: I have and most people have, lives to lead. We go to work; we play outdoor sports and we travel. That is why 'Radio Caroline' was originally aimed at post-WWII 'housewives' - women bound to a house and taking care of chores and children. That world has disappeared. As for the Dansette lot, well during the daytime they were at school.

So by the time the kids got home and Dad got home, the 'daytime' was either ending or had ended and television had taken over.

Radio was saved by automation and getting rid of annoying djs who thought they were important in their own minds. But without the housewives to romance and sell detergent to, there is no market for the Fifties and Sixties kind of radio programming.

What you have is a bunch of old farts who live in the past, unpaid, and daydream by trying to recreate a world that has long gone and playing the fool, and the only way many can do that, is to beg, borrow or steal, and that describes the world of offshore radio after 1967.

My own introduction to the alternative music scene of the 1950s, was on Radio Luxembourg when it had strong ties to US broadcasting networks such as NBC. That is how it became branded as 'The Station of the Stars' - a great many of the big US radio stars of the day were on '208'. Luxembourg carried both plays and variety shows that were the big shows of the day on US radio, but otherwise unknown in the UK.

But on Saturday nights an umbrella program was aired that incorporated the Alan Freed Show who was heard in the USA over WINS in New York City. It was Freed who self-dubbed himself as "The Father of Rock 'n' Roll" and he featured a lot of R&B music and ignored the 'race' barrier by promoting music and not color of skin.

It was on Freed's show that I was introduced to Buddy Holly, but Freed was tied to Maurice Levy who was a member of the 'Jewish Mafia' that dominated the East Coast and reached into Los Angeles on the West Coast where he linked himself to the record company that produced all of Little Richard's big hits. Levy was the master of Payola and eventually he allowed Freed to be hung out to dry while Dick Clark 'escaped'.

In the Fifties the promoters on British soil of British music were BBC and ITA stations, not so much BBC radio. On television one man stood out as the pioneer - Jack Good, and he was later hired by US TV to replicate what he had done on British TV, and he did with great success.

Both Alan Freed on WINS and '208' and Jack Good on British TV and then US TV remain the unsung champions of the music world.

It was Maurice Levy who was behind the reprogramming of Radio Caroline and the 'Good Guys' nonsense via his involvement with WMCA and the hiring of Jack Spector - not as a WMCA dj, but for Levy's own 'export' program heard on Radio Caroline.

Although the name 'Caroline' originated with Beatrix Miller, she quit 'Queen' magazine when Jocelyn Stevens came up with the idea of using it as the name for a daytime station aimed at housewives. In fact, she quit on the day that Planet Productions Limited was registered in Ireland on February 25, 1964.

But in March 1965 it became necessary to conceal both the origins and original purpose of Radio Caroline which was not supposed to last for more than a few months as maritime test of British law enforcement, not for broadcasting purposes, but an entirely different undertaking worth millions and eventually billions. So in March 1965 the myth of 'Caroline Kennedy' was launched via an unwitting Robert Kennedy in New York.

Rusling learned some of this, but Rusling could not and would not sit still long enough to educate himself and so he turned around and stole our research to aid and abet the nonsense promoted by Malcolm Smith and his totally inconsequential radio station with its own plagiarized name.

James you-know-who, says that he does not understand why the Steve Martin line that "you can be a millionaire and never pay taxes" is a joke. Well that is a problem isn't it? It is like the old SWTM coded line "So Where's The Money"? If you assume point number one to be a fact - that the money exists - then paying taxes on it may be a problem. In other words what anoraks all fail to grasp is that by beginning with the claim that Ronan O'Rahilly started Radio Caroline, you lot are in the same boat as those who assert the 'Climate Change' is a fact, which leads to the next question: "How do we fix it?" Or, if the vaccines work as was already asserted at the start of Covid, then why do you need a number 2-3- and now 4 (in Israel)? It is clear that the Covid vaccine is not in the same league as all of the other vaccines. Or, "when is a vaccine not a vaccine? = When its supposed to stop Covid." Or, "when is a biological weapon of mass destruction not a biological weapon of mass destruction? = When it comes from China." Or, "when is an anorak not a simpleton? = when the anorak understands what Steve Martin said." Want more?

Finally it seems you understand what Steve Martin said, but now you seem to think that we wrote that Ian Cowper Ross was a liar because he touched his nose. But that is NOT what we wrote and that is not what happened.

Ian Cowper Ross is smarter than you because you made a direct connection that he never made. This is what he said and did and this is how we described it:

In the latest OEM, Oonagh tells all, Ian Ross style, and she is at variance with the nonsense spun by Paul Rusling, and at variance with facts easily discovered by the most simplistic anorak.

In short, Oonagh whatever-she-wants-to call-herself, has just lied big time.

David, stop trying to be clever. If the man says Hubbard and not Huggard, maybe he has a Police Report saying who she is, and maybe he also has Electoral Records to support the Police Report and maybe a whole lot more. Now David, what if Oonagh Huggard is Oonagh Hubbard who was Oonagh Leigh and became Oonagh Karanjia who went so far as to make up the marital record of Jocelyn Stevens, why I don't know. Do you? She also made up another story to get away from the Jimmy baloney, and what about you? What is your story and why do you care? Maybe they will investigate you next since they have already created a dossier on Freddie Archer and others. Now what is it that you don't want the world to know about you? What if 'they' strip you bare and begin to tell everyone else? Stop being a nuisance David and go to bed, it's way too late for you to be out in he real world with real people.

I haven't been stripped bare for a while, but I doubt if anything of great import lies within.

No doubt if you are calling someone a liar, you will back that up with facts, chapter and verse. Perhaps one person's understanding and recollection of events does not align with another. Such is the fallibility of the human mind.

Well this is fun boys and girls, because OOoooooooonagh has been playing all of the anoraks, Her name is Oonagh M. Leigh - nope don't know YET what the 'M' stands for and she got married and became Oonagh Hubbard and then on January 22, 2017 she became Oonagh Karanjia. She told Paul Rusling that she lived on Thayer Street - she did - at number 36, and that is when she said she had car parking problems. The year she was there (and she was there), was on October 10, 1961 and then she moved to 21 Primrose Hill Road in Hampstead - but she told Chris Edwards about the same car problems and that she lived on Farrier Street which is not near Thayer Street. Yes, she could have moved and had the same car problems but she seems to have told Chris Edwards a pack of lies about several different things in a very, very short interview. But, there now exists a dossier on Oonagh and many other people who have tried to fiddle with the truth and the dossier contains names, dates, places and even a Police Report about Oonagh. So anoraks one and all, and would be junior anoraks like Mr Bramley and Scottg and Freddy who is really someone else (like Peter Moore), its getting very close to being your bed times because the darkness brought on by the falling of the fire curtain is about to bring a halt to all of your childish play acting. Go on, admit it, you were never very good at discerning fact from fiction and Ooooooooonagh has just confirmed it.

Love it how Garry's board of geriatrics think the Doctor of Daytime Meds was slating Caroline rather than praising the station and mocking them
