The first offshore radio stations (in as much as they were certainly off the British coast line) get very little attention from anoraks even though Ronan O'Rahilly told a rather large whopper about one of them in relation to Georgie Fame. Yet these were the original pioneers of free radio for the UK, trying to bust the BBC's monopoly and loved by their listeners. Ironically a number of sixties offshore DJ's ended up on Luxy some because they could not get a gig on Radio One or in some cases didn't want to sell out to them. It say's much about UK radio that even in the late 1980's Radio Luxembourg felt that there was still a market for high powered radio broadcasting into the UK as they and RTE set up Atlantic 252 (in part based on how good Laser 558 had been). So here are a few reminders of the 'other type' of British offshore radio along with the occasional fade in and out, when the real pioneers of UK commercial radio did their stuff.

I wonder just what climate alarm-ism we can look forward to now it appears that summer has arrived. Don't forget that 97% of scientists agree with whoever is funding them, so expect lot's of expert opinions from that side of the story, whilst the other side will remain largely gagged for fear of being accused of the horrific crime of saying "actually there is conflicting evidence". So let's spray Stonehenge orange, or smugly stand out side the Supreme Court having slowed down Oil and Gas development, whilst China and India continue to massively develop theirs, don't forget it's your fault that the Earth has climate change (like it has done for thousands of years). Whatever you do, don't mention the Sun and solar activity as anything to do with the cause, because you cant tax that! And please, please, please, no mention of the Medieval Warm period that has been scientifically established (no matter how much the media and very well paid climate activists will lie to your face and deny it lasted for years). Finally in this short but happy rant we can expect the weather forecast maps to glow with even darker shades of orange and red in the next few months, whilst the news and weather actors adopt grim faces, and talk in hushed undertones about all of this being your fault again and about Al Gores sea level rises meaning London is now under water, no hang on a minute they don't seem to talk about that disaster, but it must have happened because 97% of scientists said it would by the second decade of this century..... What if everything you thought you knew was awash with distortions, semi-truths, or full on lies? Your perception of your own memories are surely reality as far as you can see or remember. Did Ronan O'Rahilly take time out in 1962 to see Mrs J Kennedy in London? Her young daughter had captured his imagination playing in the White House, so much so, that he planned to name a radio station after her. Is that true or is that false? Do you know the timeline? How can you find out? Was Radio Caroline named after the very young Caroline Kennedy? The ghosts in the machine have been playing with your perception for a very long time. Did you buy into any of the wars since you were born? Did you see them as just, necessary, or vital for the defense of freedom loving people? Perception is reality after all isn't it? Or have you joined the 'Woke' generation where feelings are more important than facts? Well if you just don't care, or think so what! that's is after all your own business. On the other hand, it's not to late to wake up and realize that perception is not actually reality. The year Ronan O'Rahilly arrived in London. It seems a long long time ago when you see these video clips. OK I admit it, I am a walking hate crime. I love normality. I crave for free speech without condition. I want to debate opposing views. I want to support the fight for recognition if I agree, or have the right to voice my opinion if I disagree. I want to question all science that personally seems wrong to me. I love humanity and despise those who seek to divide. I want to hold those to account without fear of repercussions, simply because we disagree. Therefore I cannot live in Scotland. The resistance to totalitarian evil begins with comedy, it's got to be better than war. I didn't let a few angry comments from two IP addresses through last week, I get it you don't like Mervyn, he is a bigger fraud than Ronan as you see it, although having seen the late grate Ronan's tactics of money extraction in person I think you haven't got a clue. Never the less keep those rose tinted glasses going and perish the thought, don't start living in the here and now. So Radio Caroline (the licensed version which by it's very nature has nothing to do with the late Irishman, or even the real founders and owners) has just incinerated oops I mean celebrated it's sixtieth anniversary. For me the most poignant words to describe it all come from Ian Anderson & I quote: Several times a day at SIBC I phone various local agencies as news sources and sometimes they ask what is happening elsewhere locally. This morning a contact in the maritime sector, who is in his 30s, asked me if there was anything else of interest and I said, oh, Radio Caroline is 60. He replied what is Radio Caroline? I said a radio station that was on several ships over the years and he replied that he had never heard of radio stations on ships. And to think that 6 people from Shetland/who lived in Shetland/are buried in Shetland served on board the Mi Amigo and at least 11 had direct connections with offshore radio. Well we made our mark! Meanwhile back to 2024 where the sleepwalk into your grand children's dystopian future continues. Better keep looking backwards folks, after all offshore radio changed the world! As the generation that celebrated the arrival of offshore radio to parts of the UK slowly but steadily dwindle in number, we can look forward to the 60th anniversary being celebrated by Anoraks and possibly even the mainstream media if it's a slow news day. Perhaps this will be the last hurrah for the aging, grumbling and never satisfied anoraks who sleepily continue to hope for the glory days to return (they did some years ago) or at least they can hold some sort of rose tinted memory festival as the sun sets forever over offshore radio. Whatever, as time goes by it all becomes less and less relevant as does offshore radio and the presenters of that era. If that period of time deserves anything regarding the offshore stations, then it's an accurate and credible historical record of what really happened and why and when. The last thing needed is another home made, print on demand, non researched rehash of a fictional story told over and over (Goebbels style), that represents little fact and a whole load of sentimental clap trap. Maybe we will get the real facts, or some of them, so those interested in real history can feel comfortable that future generations can get the whole sixties offshore radio chapter in context, including why the government of that time went against massive public opinion and took action to stop them. It's taken me a long long time to finally understand the whys and why not's and although I still disagree with the governments action, at least I have the context. So lets see what unfolds and whether the truth will out! Or do you wish to remain on your own personal fantasy island. Final clue: It wasn't the young Irishman who made it all happen. It's almost sixty years since a few people began dining out on their heroic antics three miles of the coast of Frinton. Now's another chance to extract some money off of the gullible with this fabulous rehash of old stories and your chance to make a 3D model, that no doubt will take pride of place in your shed!!! How long will we submit to a world run by racketeers and gangsters? Neil Oliver: The Profits of War17/2/2024 And all the anoraks go on about is the massive injustice of not having enough kilowatts or who was best, Laser or Caroline? (it was Big L by a million miles). |
